Nicky is a dedicated and passionate Therapy Aide at NAPA, currently studying a Bachelor of Health and Medical Science at Charles Sturt University, with the goal of completing a Masters in Occupational Therapy. Her deep commitment to helping others is rooted in her lived experience, having grown up in a family surrounded by neurodiversity and receiving her own adult ADHD diagnosis. Nicky’s professional journey in the disability sector began when, while working as an inclusive gymnastics and dance coach, she was given an opportunity by Special Olympics Australia to pioneer a new sporting program in special education schools and support units throughout Sydney. Nicky loved tapping into her “big-kid energy” participating with the students so much that when one of the schools offered her a role as a Teacher Aide, she jumped at the opportunity and stayed for many years.
Looking for ways to maximise every child’s sense of belonging and participation, Nicky’s passion for allied health was further ignited while supporting OTs, physios and speechies in the classroom. Working predominantly with students who required specialist health support such as tube feeding, medications and seizure management, Nicky ensured her students are feeling happy, well looked after and ready to take an active part in their learning and socialising with their classmates. This role, along with her extensive experience as a disability support worker supporting children in various settings, solidified her interest in paediatric therapy.
When not at NAPA or studying, Nicky enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their toddler. She loves discovering new playgrounds and ice-cream flavors, going to the gym, planning trips to visit extended family in Hungary and Mexico, shopping for colourful leggings, and enjoying a quiet crafternoon or good book.
